India vs South Africa 2nd ODI is being played in Raipur. Team India is ahead 1-0 in the 3-match series. In Ranchi, India defeated the visiting team by 17 runs, in which Harshit Rana bowled brilliantly. He took 2 big wickets (Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock) in his first and second overs of the match, however the ICC has reprimanded him for an incident and also added 1 demerit point.

The ICC said in its statement that Harshit was found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Staff, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures that insult a batsman when he is out during an international match, or which is likely to anger the batsman.”

This is Harshit Rana’s first mistake in the last 24 months. The Indian fast bowler admitted his mistake and also accepted the punishment given by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

What was Harshit Rana punished for?

In the India vs South Africa 1st ODI played in Ranchi, Harshit Rana took the wicket of Dewald Brevis as his third wicket, who had hit a ‘no look’ six in his previous over. When Harshit dismissed Dewald Brevis in the 22nd over, he became very excited and pointed towards the pavilion with his finger. A video of his had also gone viral, in which it seemed as if he had also abused.

The ICC said in its statement that it was considered that this could have given the batsman an opportunity to give an aggressive reaction. One demerit point was added to the disciplinary record of Harshit Rana.

Second ODI is being played in Raipur

Today, India vs South Africa 2nd ODI is being played at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. Here also KL Rahul lost the toss. This is the 20th consecutive time that India has lost the toss in ODI. Team India has not made any changes in its playing 11.
