The atmosphere has heated up after a heated clash between villagers and police in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh. Villagers clashed with the police over a dispute regarding the extension of Amera coal mine. Angry villagers pelted stones at the police. Besides, policemen were also attacked with sticks. 40 policemen have been injured in this incident. The police resorted to lathicharge and released tear gas shells to control the situation. Many villagers have also been injured in this.

It is being told that the angry villagers created a ruckus against the expansion of the Amera coal mine. Villagers armed with sticks, slingshots and axes attacked the police force. At the same time, the police also retaliated and chased away the villagers. More than half a dozen villagers are reported to have been injured in the police lathi charge. Right now the situation near the mine remains tense.

A large number of police forces deployed near the mine

Police officials have dispatched additional police forces to the spot. Considering the situation, tear gas shells have been called. Additional District Magistrate along with police officers are present at the spot. Villagers have been agitating for the last several months regarding Amera Coal Mines Extension.

What did the Additional Collector of Surguja say?

Surguja Additional Collector Sunil Kumar Nayak said, “People of Parsodi Kalan village have gathered at SECL Amera and are saying that they will not allow further coal mining. When we spoke to them, we came to know that the land survey process was completed in 2016 and after the survey, some villagers have received their compensation.

He further said, “Despite the land survey process, many villagers are still refusing to take compensation and are creating obstacles in coal mining. There was stone pelting here, due to which many policemen were seriously injured.

Villagers are now refusing to give their land

In the year 2016, under the land acquisition, compensation was given by acquiring the land of the villagers, but now the villagers are refusing to give their land, due to which this dispute has arisen.
