According to experts, people between 40 to 60 years of age require at least 9 hours of sleep every day. Because this maintains the body’s repair process and hormonal balance. Sleeping less than 7 hours increases the risk of type 2 diabetes by 9 percent. At the same time, lack of sleep accumulates fat in the stomach. The immune system becomes weak and the body gets tired quickly. In such a situation, sleep should not be taken lightly as age increases.

After crossing the age of 40, one should stop ignoring strength training. After the age of 40, the body starts losing 3 to 5 percent muscles every decade. To prevent this, strength training is necessary. At the same time, strength training done twice a week increases bone density, improves metabolism and reduces the risk of heart disease by 17 percent.

Eating processed food should also be stopped after the age of 40. Highly processed foods like chips and soda become a major cause of obesity after 40. They spike blood sugar, increase inflammation and double the risk of heart disease. The lack of fiber in these snacks spoils the health of the stomach and intestines and increases the risk of colon cancer by 20 percent.

After 40, regular blood tests are necessary even without symptoms. Because the body catches many hidden problems through these tests. These tests include high cholesterol, pre-diabetes and thyroid. The tests done every year help in preventing up to 30 percent of chronic diseases.

Apart from this, one should stop accumulating stress after the age of 40. Continuous stress increases cortisol in the body, due to which the risk of blood pressure and type 2 diabetes increases by 45 percent. Chronic stress shrinks the parts of the brain that handle memory, which can double anxiety and reduce life span.
