This time the result of English subject has become a big issue of discussion in the college cadre assistant professor recruitment of Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC). Out of approximately 2200 candidates, only 151 could score minimum 35% marks, while the examination was conducted for a total of 613 posts. This unexpectedly low result has raised serious questions on the recruitment process, examination pattern and education system.
Concern increased due to low results, 75% seats remained vacant
Subject knowledge test for English subject was conducted by HPSC. According to the rules, it was mandatory for the candidates to score minimum 35% marks, but out of approximately 2200 candidates, only 151 could reach this standard. This simply means that about 75% seats remained vacant.

Such a large number of seats remaining vacant not only raises questions on the selection process, but also indicates that there may be an imbalance somewhere in the examination. Experts believe that if such a large number of candidates are not able to score even the minimum marks, then it can also be an indication of the difficulty level of the examination.
Questions raised on preparation
There is disappointment among the candidates due to this result. Many candidates say that the level of the paper was more difficult than even PhD or NET. Many questions were vague and it seemed that the purpose of the test was not to select but to screen. Candidates also argue that a minimum score of 35% in a subject like English is appropriate, but when even a large number of prepared candidates are not able to cross this level, then a review of the exam pattern becomes necessary.
need improvement
The balance between the difficulty level and syllabus of the exam should be checked.
The standard of question paper should be such that it is in line with college level recruitment.
The process of determining minimum marks should be transparent.
Options like moderation or normalization should also be considered so that eligible candidates can get a fair chance.
Impact can also be seen on upcoming recruitments
There have been delays and controversies in the recruitment processes in HPSC for a long time. After this result of English subject, candidates of other subjects are also worried that the same might happen to them. Students say that if the seats are not filled then the shortage of teachers in colleges will increase further, which will have a direct impact on the quality of higher education.
