Many people suddenly start seeing thin lines of blue, red or purple color on their feet. At first glance they look exactly like spider webs. As if someone has woven a fine web inside the skin. Many people think it is just a skin pattern, but actually it is a signal from the veins in your legs that the blood is not flowing properly.
Nowadays this problem has become so common that 4 out of 10 people experience it. These appear suddenly due to prolonged standing, weight gain, or simply aging. Many women also develop them during pregnancy or hormonal changes. If you are also worried about why these veins suddenly started appearing or is it a serious disease, then today let us tell you what is the reason behind the spider web-like veins in the legs.
What are spider veins?
These veins are called spider veins. These are small blood veins present just below the skin, which due to some reason become dilated and become clearly visible from above. Their color can be red, blue or purple and they form shapes exactly like webs or tree branches. It usually forms on the skin of the feet, legs, ankles, sometimes even on the face and cheeks.
Due to what problem do these veins become visible?
1. Weakening of vein valves – There are small valves in our veins, which push blood upward towards the heart. When these valves become loose, blood starts accumulating downwards. This pressure expands the veins and gives them a web-like appearance.
2. Constantly standing or sitting – People who stand for long hours, like teachers, guards, shop employees, suffer more from this problem. People who sit for long periods of time, such as in computer jobs, also have blood pooling in their legs and putting pressure on the veins.
3. Weight gain – Excess weight puts extra pressure on the feet. Due to this, it becomes difficult for the blood to be pumped up and the veins become visible.
4. Pregnancy and hormonal changes – During pregnancy, the amount of blood in women increases and the pressure also increases. Hormonal changes also weaken the nerves.
5. Genetic reasons – If your parents have had this problem, you are more likely to have it too.
6. Aging – With age, both skin and nerves start losing their strength. Due to this, the veins do not remain as strong as before and become visible from above.
What to do if spider veins appear on your legs?
1. Exercise by placing your feet on the wall. Lie on your back on the ground, keep your legs straight on the wall, bend your toes towards you and then upwards. Do this for 10 minutes.
2. Do standing leg raises. Stand barefoot, lift the heels up, then put them down. Do this 100 times. This strengthens the calf muscle, which plays a major role in pumping blood upward.
3. Start walking on the opposite foot. Walking upside down for 10 minutes daily reduces strain in the veins of the legs and improves blood flow.
4. Try to lose weight. If the weight is too much, then reducing it little by little will reduce the pressure on the veins and the problem will also reduce.
5. Wear compression stockings. Compression stockings above the knees prevent blood from accumulating below. These are very helpful in spider veins as well as varicose veins.
6. Add some Epsom salt in a bucket of hot water and soak your feet for 10-12 minutes. Due to this, magnesium relaxes the nerves of the skin and reduces swelling.
