Winter season brings a lot of trouble for the children, due to which not only the children get troubled but their parents also remain worried. Cold winds, drop in temperature and changing weather together weaken the immunity of children. Because of this, they quickly become victims of cold, cough, fever and viral infections, which is not good for their health.

If you have small children in your house then it is important to take special care of them in winter. From food to clothing, everything has to be taken care of so that they can avoid seasonal diseases.

Common problems faced by children in winter

Why are Vitamin C and D important?

  • As the winter season approaches, parents should increase the amount of Vitamin C in their children’s diet. Food items which are rich in Vitamin C must be consumed by children. Vitamin C keeps children’s immune cells active.
  • Vitamin C is found most in these fruits and vegetables: orange, sweet lime, amla, kiwi, lemon, tomato, capsicum.
  • Similarly, Vitamin D is also important for children. Let them play in the sun for some time every day so that their bones remain strong.

Provide warm and nutritious food to children

In winter, children’s body needs extra energy and warmth. Therefore, consume these things:

  • make Ayurvedic decoction and give it
  • Dry Fruits: Almonds, Walnuts, Raisins
  • Ghee and jaggery (increases immunity but do not give in large quantities)
  • Hot grains like millet, jowar, ragi
  • Ayurvedic spices: turmeric, ginger
  • Soup, porridge, mung dal, vegetables

keep children hydrated

There is less thirst in winter due to which the throat can become dry and the face may become rough. Keep giving water to children at regular intervals.

  • hot water
  • Herbal Water (Ginger, Basil, Cinnamon) Adequate water keeps immune cells active and protects from infection.

Why is physical activity important for children in winter?

Due to cold, parents often do not allow children to play outside, which is wrong. Due to this, their blood circulation slows down, energy decreases and immunity becomes weak. Therefore, it is important for children to do light physical activities, such as:

  • run
  • skipping
  • sum
  • indoor exercise
  • Any fun game that involves body movement
