Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana is a scheme of the Central Government under which a total financial assistance of Rs 5000 is given to women who become mothers for the first time. This amount is given in three installments. Whereas if a woman has a daughter born for the second time, then an additional assistance of Rs 6000 is given by the government. In this way, eligible women get a total benefit of up to Rs 11,000. The aim of this government scheme is to provide necessary facilities to pregnant women on time during vaccination, health checkup and delivery. This improves the health of both mother and child and also reduces the financial burden on the family.
Who can take advantage of this scheme?
Only women who are at least 19 years of age can avail the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. Apart from this, women facing interruption in work or reduction in salary due to pregnancy or applying for first born children can also avail the benefit of this scheme. Apart from this, SC, ST women, Divyangjan women, BPL card holders, beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat Yojana, e-Shram card holders, beneficiaries of Kisan Samman Nidhi and women holding MNREGA job card are also considered eligible for this scheme. At the same time, this benefit is not given to women doing regular jobs in the Central or State Government.
