Now a big opportunity is coming for those who dream of becoming a storyteller, because for the first time in the country, proper education and degree is also being made available for this unique and increasingly popular career. Nowadays, storytellers are not limited to religious programs only, rather their popularity is continuously increasing in the new era through social media and live events.
Many great storytellers who narrate Ram Katha, Bhagwat Katha and Puranas are followed by millions of people across the country. This is the reason why youth have also started adopting it as a professional career. But very few people know that now professional studies can also be done to become a storyteller.
The biggest step regarding storytelling has been taken by Sampurnanand Sanskrit University of Varanasi. This university is the first such institution in the country where regular courses are being run to become storytellers. The university has started 10 online courses related to storytelling, through which students can learn to become storytellers sitting at home. In these courses, students are not only taught the art of storytelling but also how to conduct a story, how to connect with the audience and how to increase their understanding of the Puranas and other Hindu scriptures.
The University believes that storytelling is not just a medium to convey a religious message, but it is a complete art that requires special training. Keeping this in mind, Sampurnanand University has also started two new certificate courses for storytellers. The first course among these is ‘Temple Management’, in which students are given information about the religious events held in temples and their arrangements. The second course is ‘Puraan Pravachan Praveen’, in which students are taught the scriptures, Puranas, storytelling style and techniques to connect with the audience.
helps to move forward
These courses are also beneficial for those who are already into storytelling or those who are studying Sanskrit and religious texts. For such people, this certificate can help them in advancing their career. Apart from this, many other Sanskrit universities of the country have also started courses related to storytelling, due to which this career is gradually coming into the mainstream.
different fees
The fees for becoming a storyteller varies from institution to institution. It depends on the type of course and its duration. For example, the fee for ‘Shrimad Bhagwat Katha’ course in ISKCON starts from Rs 2499, whereas in some Sanskrit universities this fee can be even higher than this. It depends on how long the course is and what subjects are taught in it.
