Railway Loco Pilot Demands: At present, Indigo is facing a big flight crisis in the country. Thousands of passengers are stranded between canceled flights, long delays and changed bookings. In this environment, now a new concern has come to light from the Railways side also. Loco pilot means the driver who drives the train. They are insisting on the demand of fixing their working hours. He says that without adequate rest, he drives the train every day in extreme fatigue.

Due to which the risk of accident increases. Pilots argue that after the IndiGo crisis, the government approved airline pilots on the basis of strict safety rules. So Railways should also adopt similar scientific work system. But if people come to answer to these demands on pilot demonstration. Then it may be difficult for the Railways.

Can the railways come to a standstill?

Loco pilots have demanded from the government that their duty should be limited to 6 hours. After every duty, there should be fixed rest of 16 hours and there should also be fixed off time in the week. According to him this is necessary for security. But if the talks are stalled and the employees start agitating. So it can have a direct impact on trains. Delays, cancellations and schedule disturbances may increase.

Just like thousands of flights were stopped across the country due to IndiGo’s crisis. Currently, IndiGo’s crisis has reached its 8th day and more than 2000 flights have been cancelled. The demands of the railway pilots were not accepted and the situation worsened. So the country’s largest passenger service system may also come under pressure. Due to which lakhs of passengers may be affected.

Why did the demand for railway pilots increase?

AILRSA i.e. All India Loco Running Staff Association says that for years all they have been demanding is that their duties should be decided according to the capacity of the human body. Pilots say that sometimes they have to work continuously for 10 to 12 hours. Long night duties, overtime and frequent trips without scheduled rest leave them mentally and physically exhausted.

His argument is that a tired loco pilot puts not only his own safety but the lives of thousands of passengers at risk. In the IndiGo case, the fatigue of pilots was taken seriously and talk of a system like FRMS was raised. On the same basis, railway pilots are saying that there should not be double standards. Their demand is that Railways should also set rules as per scientific and safe working system.

Railway employees are angry about this matter

AILRSA clearly said that when government or public sector employees raise their voice to improve their condition. So action is taken against them. But when big private companies like IndiGo challenge the safety rules. So the government seems to be taking their side. The association alleges that despite IndiGo violating the rules related to rest and duty hours of pilots, the government showed leniency.

On the contrary, strict action is taken against railway employees even in case of minor agitation. He says that FRMS i.e. Fatigue Risk Management System is a proven model across the world and it is mandatory for the aviation sector. So why is there so much delay in implementing it in the railway work.
