
Often, thirst is less in winter season but the body needs water as much as before. Due to lack of water, the synovial fluid present in the joints starts drying up, which increases friction and causes more pain and stiffness. Drinking lukewarm water regularly throughout the day reduces joint pain, reduces swelling and provides relief to the muscles.

In the winter season, taking nutritious food items like sesame-jaggery, almonds, walnuts, peanuts, turmeric milk, green vegetables, soya, pulses reduces swelling in the body and strengthens the bones and joints from inside.

If you are having pain in any part of the body, then applying a warm compress on that area provides immediate relief from the pain. You can compress the cloth by heating it or using a hot water bag.

Not just skin, joints also need moisture. Dryness of cold makes muscles and joints stiff, hence a 10-minute light massage with mustard, coconut or sesame oil helps a lot in reducing stiffness, keeping the muscles warm and improving blood circulation.

During the winter season, the amount of Vitamin D in the body may decrease, which may lead to muscle stiffness and joint pain. To avoid this, sit or walk in the sun for at least half an hour a day, which will increase the amount of Vitamin D in your body. If the pain is severe then definitely consult a doctor.

We have generally seen that people start overeating in winter because many types of dishes are prepared in the cold season, by eating which we increase our weight, which is a very wrong step. If you have problem of joint pain, then these problems can increase further due to weight gain, so keep an eye on your diet and do not let your weight increase.

Whenever you go out in the winter season, take special care that you cover your body completely, i.e. wear warm clothes and cover those parts of the body where you feel that you are having pain, such as covering your knees properly with a warm band, wearing gloves in your hands, etc.
