An important news has come out for the students and parents studying in West Bengal. West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has announced major changes in the summer holidays of 2026. Whereas usually children used to get a long summer break in May-June, now the duration of holidays has been reduced to only 6 days. The board says that this decision has been taken to balance the academic session and reduce study pressure. According to the new guidelines, now the summer break will be from May 11 to May 17 only. According to the WBBSE Board, this decision will reduce the study pressure on children and will not harm them academically.
Summer vacation reduced from 11 days to 6 days
Taking a big decision, West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has reduced the summer vacation available to students from 11 days to 6 days. This decision will be applicable to every school recognized by the board. There is a lot of mixed reaction on this. The board says that the total holidays for the year have to be kept within a certain limit, due to which the summer holidays have been reduced.
You will get 25 consecutive days long leave on festivals
In West Bengal, even though this time the board has reduced the summer holidays from 11 days to only 6 days, there is also a good news for students and teachers. The board has made a big increase in holidays during festivals. This time there will be a long holiday of 25 consecutive days on big festivals like Durga Puja, Kali Puja and Bhaiphonta. This means that holidays may be less in the summer season but there will be plenty of rest during festivals. This change has brought relief to all, students, parents and school staff. The long festival break will not only provide mental rest but will also increase the opportunity to spend time with family.
Supplementary sheet closed in 12th board exam
West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has taken many other big decisions, under which it has completely stopped giving supplement sheets in the 12th class board examination to be held in the year 2026. That means now students will not get any extra sheet i.e. supplement sheet during the examination. Now students will have to give their answers in the given answer sheet only.

West Bengal Board has implemented a new rule this year to make the examination process more strict and transparent. Now the signature of the examiner or invigilator will be mandatory on the last page of the answer sheet of every student. If this signature is not found on any copy then the answer sheet may be considered invalid. With this rule, the possibilities of changing copies, adding pages or errors in testing will be reduced and students will get marks in a fair manner.
