Tension is continuously increasing between the superpowers in the Pacific Ocean. In response to the provocative actions of China and Russia, America has fielded its extremely dangerous B-2 bomber in support of Japan. American bomber can be seen patrolling in the East China Sea with a total of 10 fighter jets including Japan’s F-35 and F-15, video of which has also been released. This action of America and Japan has come after the joint air-patrolling of China and Russia this week.
The air forces of China and Russia conducted joint air-patrolling in the Asia-Pacific (Indo-Pacific) region on Tuesday (December 9, 2025). In this patrolling, Russia’s Tu-95 Strategic Missile Carrier (Bomber) along with China’s H-6 bombers conducted aerial patrol in the East China Sea, Sea of Japan and Western Pacific Ocean. During this period, Russia’s Su-30, Su-35 and China’s J-16 fighter jets provided cover to these bombers.
Joint patrolling between China and Russia, opposition from Japan and South Korea
Although Russia claimed that this joint patrolling was done under international laws, Japan and South Korea had expressed strong objection. Japan’s Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi had given a strong reaction and said that China and Russia together are trying to show strength against Japan, which is a matter of concern.
In fact, Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has announced to strengthen its defense sector in the East China Sea. It has also announced help during China’s attack on Taiwan. In such a situation, for the last one week, China has deployed its aircraft carrier Liaoning in the East China Sea on a training mission for the first time. During this period, Chinese J-15 planes took off from the aircraft carrier.
America comes after Russia amid China-Japan tension
Japan has also been laying claim to the East China Sea and had accused Chinese aircraft of violating Japanese airspace. Japan had scrambled American fighter jet F-15 against Chinese fighter planes. During this, both the countries (China and Japan) had accused each other’s fighter jets of jamming the radar. After the clash between China and Japan, Russia deployed its Tu-95 bomber for air-patrolling in the Pacific Ocean. Now America has also jumped into this tension.
