Stock Market Today: The first trading session of the week in the Indian stock market on Monday, December 22, started on a positive note. Major benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 opened trading in the green.
The 30-share BSE Sensex index opened at 85,145.90 with a rise of 216.54 points or 0.25 per cent, while the NSE Nifty 50 opened at 26,055.85 with a rise of 89.45 points or 0.34 per cent.
By around 9:20 am, the Sensex was trading at 85,362 points, up by 433 points, while the Nifty 50 was trading at 26,103, up 136 points.

How was the market on Friday?
On Friday, December 19, there was a tremendous rise in the Indian stock market and both the major benchmark indices closed trading in the green. Sensex rose by 447.55 points or 0.53 percent to 84,929.36 points, while NSE Nifty 50 jumped by 150.85 points or 0.58 percent to end the trading day at 25,966.40.
PowerGrid, Asian Paint, Reliance, Bajaj Finserv and Trent were the top gainers from the BSE basket. Talking about the top losers, HCL Tech, Kotak Bank, ICICI Bank and Sun Pharma were.
There was a rise in the shares of Nifty IT, Nifty Smallcap 100, Nifty FMCG, Nifty Bank, Nifty Auto and Nifty 100. On Friday’s trading day, 26 shares from BSE basket closed in the green and 4 shares recorded a decline.
