The news of a very painful road accident has come to light from Central Java province of Indonesia. In the early hours of Monday (22 December 2025) in Semarang city, a bus traveling at high speed suddenly lost control and overturned. In this accident, at least 16 passengers died on the spot, while 19 people are said to be seriously injured.
The accident occurred at a busy intersection near the Krapyak toll exit, where the bus overturned after hitting the roadside safety barrier. According to the local administration, the speed of the bus was very high and the driver could not control the vehicle due to sudden loss of control.
Passengers trapped in bus as it overturned
Eyewitnesses said that the collision was so severe that the bus completely overturned on the road. There was chaos immediately after the accident. Many passengers were trapped inside the bus because the windows were broken and the body was badly twisted. Hearing the screams at the spot, people nearby ran to help, but the condition of the bus was so bad that it was not possible to go inside without special equipment.
Rescue operation lasted for hours
Budyono, head of the Semarang Search and Rescue Office, said that the relief and rescue operations were very difficult. The bus was badly damaged and a path had to be made with the help of machines to reach the people trapped inside. The rescue team had to take extra precautions due to broken pieces of glass and bent parts of iron. After several hours of hard work, all the injured and the dead could be taken out of the bus.
Treatment of the injured is going on in the hospital.
According to international news agency Xinhua, all the injured have been admitted to different hospitals in Semarang. The condition of some of the injured is said to be very critical. Police are busy identifying the dead and injured and investigation into the exact cause of the accident is underway.
