`A big update has come on the injury of Indian ODI team vice-captain Shreyas Iyer. Iyer was injured while taking a catch during the ODI series against Australia. The injury was so serious that he had to be admitted to the ICU. Now the news is that Shreyas has come to BCCI’s Center of Excellence for rehabilitation.
It was told that after the investigation report comes back correct, Shreyas Iyer will be allowed to do batting, fielding and strength workouts. Now it seems that Iyer’s report is correct. He took batting practice in Mumbai on 24 December.
A BCCI source was quoted by Times of India as saying, “Shreyas Iyer’s injury in Australia was unfortunate, due to which he had to miss several cricket matches. The good thing is that Shreyas is no longer suffering from pain and practiced batting without any problem in Mumbai on Wednesday.
To improve his fitness, Shreyas will now reach BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. It is being told that he will remain under the supervision of the medical team and coaches for 4-6 days. Due to injury, Iyer could not play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the series against South Africa. But Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 has started on 24th December. If Iyer becomes completely fit in the next days, he can play for Mumbai in Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The source further said that Shreyas Iyer is practicing regularly in the gym. There doesn’t seem to be any problem right now, but his playing will depend on the report of the Center of Excellence. Iyer will remain in Bengaluru for 4-6 days and like all other players, there will be no hurry to bring him back. There is a possibility of his return in the ODI series against New Zealand or the final phase of Vijay Hazare Trophy.
