The roots of caste discrimination in Bihar are very deep, which remains a curse for the government and the progress of Bihar. To end this problem, Bihar government has started “Inter-caste Marriage Promotion Scheme”. The objective of this scheme is to eliminate casteism and discrimination in Bihar state and society. Under this, if a person from Bihar marries outside his caste i.e. does an inter-caste marriage, then the government will give an incentive amount of up to Rs 1 lakh to that person or couple. How much money will the newly married couple get?

Under this scheme launched by the Bihar government, if any person who is a resident of Bihar marries someone belonging to another caste, he will be given up to Rs 1 lakh as incentive by the Bihar government, but the incentive amount will be provided only if the marriage is done in another caste. Its objective is to eliminate caste discrimination and untouchability prevalent in the society and to increase mutual brotherhood among people, so that discrimination between different castes ends and new relationships are established.

Terms and conditions for availing the scheme

To avail the benefits of this scheme, Bihar government has imposed some important conditions and rules for newly married couples. If you follow all these rules, then you can also take advantage of “Inter-caste Marriage Promotion Grant Scheme” of Bihar Government.

  • To avail the benefits of this scheme, newly married couples must be permanent citizens of Bihar. Citizens outside Bihar will not get any benefit from this scheme.
  • According to this scheme, one party of the newly married couple must be from the Scheduled Caste (SC) or Scheduled Tribe (ST) and the other party must be from the upper caste or other backward class (OBC) society.
  • The benefit of the scheme will be available only to those individuals or newly married couples who are legally husband and wife. That is, those who have marriage certificate or court marriage certificate.
  • According to the rules of the scheme, the age of the girl should be above 18 years and the age of the boy should be above 21 years. Only then newly married couples will be eligible for this scheme.
  • To receive the amount of the scheme, it is necessary for the husband and wife to have a joint bank account, that is, there should be a joint bank account and the account must be linked to Aadhaar.
  • The marriage of the boy and the girl must be officially registered under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 or the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.
