Can Pizza And Burgers Be Life Threatening: A shocking case came to light from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, where the death of a 16-year-old girl was linked to fast-food. Many reports claimed that the reason for his death was the consumption of pizza and burgers. However, many doctors challenged this claim and came forward to clarify the medical truth related to intestinal perforation. Let us know whether eating pizza and burgers can really kill someone and what do doctors have to say on this matter?
Can eating pizza and burgers really cause death?
Dr. Rahul Chawla (Consultant, IBS Hospital, Lajpat Nagar) challenged the theory of pizza and burgers behind the death of the 16 year old girl and told what could be the real reason. In fact, after the girl’s death, many reports claimed that junk food, which included chow mein, burgers and Maggi, became the cause of her death. This theory spread rapidly. Reports also said that he was complaining of stomach ache for several months. When a student died despite treatment in Delhi AIIMS, people believed these reports and a debate started on this issue. However, in an Instagram post made on December 25, Dr. Chawla expressed his views on this entire matter.
What did the doctor say?
In his video, Dr. Chawla told that ultra-processed foods have a long-term effect on our metabolism, but their effect is not seen so suddenly. He said, “The death of a 16-year-old girl in AIIMS is definitely a serious warning about fast-food. Pizza and pasta can affect your digestion system for a long time. Ultra-processed foods are harmful for metabolic health and can cause many problems related to digestion, but it does not suddenly cause intestinal perforation.”
These could be the reasons
According to Dr. Chawla, the medical reasons in such cases are usually quite complex and sometimes immediate surgery is required. According to him, there could be three main reasons behind this,
Typhoid or TB- These are common diseases found in this area. If timely treatment is not done, wounds can form in the intestines, which later lead to holes in the intestine.
Mesenteric ischemia- This is a condition in which the blood supply to the intestines reduces or stops. Due to this, the intestinal tissue starts getting damaged and may lead to rotting.
Unseen problems- Long-lasting stomach pain often indicates a chronic internal disease, not a problem caused by a single meal.
Dr. Chawla said, “In most of the cases, the girl would have been suffering from typhoid or TB, due to which there was a hole in the intestine. One reason could also be mesenteric ischemia, that is, stoppage of blood supply to the intestines, due to which the intestines start getting damaged. In all these situations, immediate operation is necessary and in some rare cases, it can also prove fatal. If stomach TB or typhoid takes a serious form, then treatment is very important. If timely treatment is not received. “Many complications can occur, including perforation of the intestine.”
