The Border Security Force (BSF) deployed in Meghalaya on Sunday (28 December 2025) completely rejected the claim of Bangladesh Police that the accused involved in the murder of Inquilab Mancha leader Sharif Usman Hadi have fled to India and come to Meghalaya. BSF clearly said that no evidence of infiltration across the border has been found. These allegations are completely baseless and misleading.
According to BSF, Bangladesh Police had said that the suspects had entered Meghalaya from Huluaghat sector, but the forces deployed on the border did not find any record or information of any such activity. After this statement, discussions between the two countries regarding this sensitive matter have intensified.
Statement of BSF Inspector General OP in Meghalaya
OP Upadhyay, Inspector General of BSF in Meghalaya, said, ‘These claims are baseless and misleading. There is no evidence to prove that anyone crossed the international border from Huluaghat sector and entered Meghalaya. He further said that BSF has neither detected any such incident nor received any report. BSF claims that strict surveillance and vigil is being maintained on the border, so that any illegal activity can be detected immediately.
Bangladesh Police’s claim and India’s response
Earlier, a senior official of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) had claimed that the two main accused in Hadi’s murder had entered the Garo Hills area of Meghalaya with the help of local associates. The officer had also said that two people who helped the accused have been detained in India.
High alert on the border, keep a close watch on the situation
BSF officials said that in view of the ongoing unrest and unstable situation in Bangladesh, security and surveillance has been increased along the international border. The Garo Hills area falls in the western part of Meghalaya, which is adjacent to Bangladesh and whose security is completely under the responsibility of BSF.
