Delhi government is going to make a major change in the free bus travel facility for women, which will make it more convenient for women to travel by bus. Delhi government will provide a contactless smart card to women to avail free bus travel, under which women will be able to easily travel in buses. Earlier, women were given pink paper tickets during the journey, but now this pink ticket will be changed and pink Saheli card will be given in its place.
When will the card be available?
According to the plan of Delhi government, this card will be available to women in 2026 i.e. New Year. The card will be implemented in entire Delhi by January 2026. The purpose of this smart card is to make the scheme completely digital. Delhi government will provide Pink Saheli Card to women for free bus travel, with the help of which women can avail the benefit of free bus travel by tapping their card once on the electronic ticketing machine present near the bus conductor. According to the official data of Delhi government, every month around 2 crore women take advantage of this free bus travel and travel, which is a huge number in itself.
Government will get accurate data of passengers
With this new change, the government will have accurate data of women’s travel, so that the number of buses can be increased on crowded routes and better management of buses can be done, so that passengers can travel in buses without any hassle.
Aadhaar card became mandatory
The biggest change in this scheme has been made by making Aadhar card mandatory, under which to make Pink Saheli card, it is necessary to have Aadhar card with Delhi address. That means, only those women who are residents of Delhi can get this smart card made and can avail the benefit of free bus travel. Complete information of the beneficiary will be recorded on this card, which will make it easy to identify.
Where and how to get Pink Saheli Card made?
If a woman wants to get Pink Saheli Smart Card made, then she can get the card made by going to DM or SDM offices, Common Service Center or her nearest bus depot. Registration counters will be opened at all these places at Delhi level, so that there is no problem in getting the card made.
