We all must have noticed that with the arrival of winter season we have to face the problem of headache more. One of the main reasons for this is that the temperature becomes very low in winter and the cold air directly affects our body, due to which the blood vessels inside our body shrink. Because of this the problem of headache increases in winter.
Apart from this, when you stay outside the house amidst cold air and low temperature and suddenly go inside the house or to a place where the heater is running, it reduces the humidity of the air. This causes difficulty in breathing and puts pressure on the sinuses, due to which pain is felt behind the eyes.

Why does headache increase in winter?

  • According to reports, the main reason for more headaches in the winter season is our blood vessels, which are one of the biggest causes of headache. When a person comes in contact with cold air or decreasing temperature, the blood vessels inside the body shrink. As soon as the person comes indoors or in a warm place, the blood vessels expand again, which affects the head and causes pain.
  • Every person’s body is different and everyone is sensitive to different things. Some people get headache due to the fragrance of flowers, while others get headache due to scented sprays. The same thing applies in winter also. Some people get headache due to being in cold and strong wind, while some people start having headache problem when they go from cold to hot place.
  • The problem of headache also persists during the winter season due to dehydration, because in winter we feel less thirsty. Because of this we also drink water in less quantity. Apart from this, one has to face dry winds in winter, due to which the moisture of the body gets mixed with the air and there is lack of water in the body. Dehydration is considered to be one of the biggest causes of headache.
  • During the winter season, we do not get sufficient amount of sunlight, due to which the amount of Vitamin D in the body reduces. Vitamin D is essential to keep our body healthy and make our bones strong. Vitamin D deficiency also affects a hormone called serotonin in the body, which plays an important role in controlling pain. For this reason, the problem of headache is seen more in winter than in summer.

To deal with the problem of headache in winter or to reduce its effect, some important measures can be adopted, which can provide relief from this problem.
