BCCI Take Stance On Mustafizur Rahman: There is a possibility of Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Mustafizur was the only Bangladeshi player to be sold in the mini auction for IPL 2026 at the Etihad Arena in Dubai last month, who was bought by Kolkata for a record price of Rs 9.20 crore. However, due to the recent political instability and violent incidents in Bangladesh, KKR and BCCI are being criticized a lot on social media and some political leaders and religious leaders have demanded to ban Bangladeshi players from IPL like Pakistani players.
BCCI gave statement regarding Mustafizur Rahman
Due to the increasing diplomatic tension between India and Bangladesh, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has adopted a clear stand on the controversy regarding Mustafizur Rahman and has currently adopted a policy of ‘wait and watch’. BCCI says that it will not ban any player without instructions from the Government of India. Clarifying the situation, a senior board official told Inside Sport, ‘The situation is sensitive. We are in constant touch with the government. At present there is nothing to ban Bangladeshi players. Mustafizur will play IPL. Bangladesh is not an enemy country. Currently, BCCI is also negotiating with the Ministry of External Affairs regarding visas for Bangladeshi players for the T20 World Cup 2026. Because the World Cup is going to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February-March.
However, Mustafizur’s availability for the entire IPL 2026 season will still depend on many factors. Because Bangladesh has to play a series against New Zealand in April and if Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) refuses to give NOC to Mustafizur, then he may remain out of many matches. Regarding visa, BCCI official has said, ‘Mustafizur Rahman will apply for visa for T20 World Cup, which will be extended for IPL. Visa will not be a big problem and there has been no negative indication from BCB regarding NOC. At present, BCCI is completely waiting for the next order of the Government of India.
