T20 World Cup 2026: The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is going to start from 7th February next month to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka and almost all the teams have announced their squads. Meanwhile, former Indian bowler Ravichandran Ashwin has expressed his disappointment over ICC’s planning for World Cup 2026. Ashwin told in his YouTube channel Ash that this time no one will go to watch the T20 World Cup. ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is starting from 7th February. A total of 20 teams will participate in the tournament, which has been divided into five groups. Indian cricket team is in Group A. Apart from India, teams from Pakistan, America, Namibia and Netherlands are present in this group.
Ravichandran Ashwin gave statement on ICC’s planning
Ravichandran Ashwin said about ICC’s planning, ‘No one will go to watch the T20 World Cup this time. Matches like India-America and India-Namibia will take you away from the tournament. When I was in school during the 1996, 1999 and 2003 World Cups, how special these tournaments were. We used to collect schedule cards and keep them. Because the tournament used to come once in four years, but now everything has changed.
Will the tournament be boring because of weak teams?
Ashwin said that if Team India has a match with teams like America and Namibia then the fans will not be that excited for it. He further said, ‘If Team India had faced teams like England and Sri Lanka in the first round, then perhaps the excitement of the tournament would have been built up in the beginning, like it used to be earlier, because this time things would have slowed down by the time we reached the Super-8.’
Ravichandran Ashwin expressed concern over ODI cricket
Apart from the T20 World Cup, Ashwin has also expressed concern over the future of ODI cricket. Ashwin believes that after the 2027 ODI World Cup, perhaps ICC will have to think about this format. Because cricket fans have shifted towards T20. People have started liking Test cricket to some extent, but do not know its number. However, the real concern is about ODI cricket that it might lose its existence.
