‘From river to sea…’, Mehbooba Mufti’s controversial post regarding Palestine’s independence

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti has posted a picture of Palestine’s flag on social media in support of it. In this post he wrote Palestine’s slogan, ‘From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.’ This post of Mehbooba Mufti has come at a time when Jammu and Kashmir Police has summoned a local cricketer for showing the Palestine flag on his cap during a match.

What is the meaning of Mufti’s slogan?

The Palestine slogan mentioned by Mehbooba Mufti means the formation of a Palestinian state from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. Israel supporters say that such slogans are often raised by their adversary Palestinian groups. This slogan denies the existence of Israel.

By interrogating the cricketer and the organizer of the tournament, the police is trying to find out whether the necessary permissions were taken or not. It is also being ascertained whether there was any violation of the tournament guidelines and what was the real intention behind displaying the flag during the sporting event.
