In Iran, people are on the streets for the fifth consecutive day on Friday (January 2, 2026) against inflation and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. So far 6 people have died in this protest. US President Donald Trump’s statement regarding this once again seems to create an atmosphere of instability in the region. Trump said, ‘If Iran shoots at peaceful protesters and kills them brutally, which is their custom, then America will come to their aid and is ready to move forward. Iranian officials have also strongly warned against US interference in the country’s internal affairs.
American interference will cause disturbances in the region: Iran
Iran’s national security chief Ali Larijani said on social media platform X that American interference will cause chaos in the entire region and harm American interests. Ali Shamkhani, a close advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, described Iran’s national security as a red line. This week, dozens of protesters took to the streets in about 21 states of Iran.
Our forces know where to attack: Iran
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, ‘People affected by the transient exchange rate in Iran have recently been protesting peacefully, which is their right. We have also seen isolated incidents of violent rioting, including attacks on a police station and throwing of Molotov cocktails at police officers. Given President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard within US borders, he should be well aware that criminal attacks on public property cannot be tolerated.
Iran’s Foreign Minister called Trump’s statement reckless and dangerous. He said, ‘Like before, the people of Iran will not accept any interference in their internal affairs. Our forces are prepared and know exactly where to attack in case of any violation of Iranian sovereignty.
Violent demonstrations in about 21 states of Iran
Iran’s semi-official news agency Fars claimed that protesters clashed with police, throwing stones at policemen and setting cars on fire. Some armed people took advantage of the protests taking place in the city. Police later confiscated weapons from some people. According to media reports, the wave of violent protests has reached about 21 states of Iran.
This is being described as the biggest protest in Iran after 2022. The biggest reason for this protest is the economic crisis. The inflation rate in Iran has reached 42.2 percent. Especially the prices of food items have increased by 72 percent.
