A scary incident has come to light from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, in which 18-year-old girl Ilma Nadeem died during treatment at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML) in Delhi. The main cause of the girl’s death is said to be parasitic infection. According to doctors, 20 to 25 tumors were found in Ilma’s brain due to the tapeworm present in cabbage. Ilma was suffering from typhoid months ago, after which her condition was continuously worsening.
A few days before Amroha, another similar incident had come to light, in which 11th class student Ahana had died. Ahana was undergoing treatment at AIIMS, Delhi. According to doctors, Ahana had a habit of eating too much pizza and fast food, due to which her intestines got stuck together and due to this she died. Both these incidents are scary and shocking, which show how serious a situation wrong eating habits and contaminated vegetables can cause.
How does tapeworm become deadly?
Tapeworm is a parasite, which causes serious harm by entering inside the body. This condition is caused by tapeworm eggs, which enter the body and reach the brain through the blood. These eggs can enter the body in dirt, leafy vegetables or through any contaminated medium. After reaching the brain, these eggs freeze and cause a dangerous disease like ‘neurocysticosis’, which can even lead to death of the person.
What is the advice of doctors?
Doctors advise that vegetables should always be eaten after washing and cooking them thoroughly. Boiling vegetables kills tapeworm eggs. It is important to boil leafy and green vegetables for at least 5 minutes, because tapeworm eggs are so small that they do not die even with the acid present in the body. Apart from this, it is important to maintain cleanliness around you and avoid defecation in dirty places or in the open.
Why is fast food becoming dangerous?
According to doctors, consuming excessive amounts of fast food can be dangerous and fatal for our body, because harmful chemicals are used in fast food and the amount of salt in it is also excessive. Fast food has negative effects on our entire body. Its consumption also has a deep impact on our brain and heart health, because the chemicals, trans fat, sugar and excessive salt present in fast food weaken the memory and reduce the brain capacity, due to which the person is not able to take right decisions. Doctors say that fast food is not good for our health at all and home cooked food is most beneficial.
