The Bangladesh government has banned live telecast of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches with immediate effect. After Mustafizur Rahman was released from Kolkata Knight Riders, Bangladesh Cricket Board had also called an emergency meeting. BCB has decided not to send its team to India even for the T20 World Cup 2026. Well, let us tell you that Bangladesh is not the first country which has banned the live telecast of IPL matches in its country.
Relations between India and Bangladesh have not been good for some time. After the murder of two Hindu youth in Bangladesh, there was protest in India against Mustafizur Rahman’s inclusion in the KKR team, then BCCI directed the franchise to release the Bangladeshi player. After this, the interim government of Mohammad Yunus decided to ban the live telecast of IPL matches in Bangladesh.
Pakistan had banned IPL telecast in 2019
In 2019, under the presidency of Imran Khan, Pakistan had decided to ban live telecast of IPL matches. Imran was the Prime Minister then. However, before this India had banned Pakistan Super League broadcaster DSport in India. This was done by the Indian government in protest against the Pulwama attack, in which 40 CRPF soldiers were martyred.
Then Pakistan’s Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary, while explaining the reason behind this, had said that India does not leave any opportunity to harm Pakistan cricket.
Although this ban was later lifted, but last year Pakistan again banned the live telecast of IPL matches. This time too, the Indian government had taken action on the Pakistan Super League. After the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the Indian government had banned the live streaming of PSL matches, after which Pakistan also banned the live telecast of IPL matches.
