A case of violent clash has come to light in Birgunj of Parsa, Nepal. Tension arose between the two communities after allegations of vandalism in the mosque. The administration has currently imposed curfew in Birgunj. Due to the uproar in Birgunj, an alert has also been declared on the Indian border.
After the coup during the Gen-Ji movement in 2025, now general elections are to be held in Nepal on 5 March 2026. Recently communal incidents were also seen there. On Saturday, an incident of vandalism in a mosque in southern Dhanusha district came to light. After this, the local administration of Parsa district of Nepal imposed curfew in some parts of Birgunj city located on India’s Raxaul border on Monday (January 5, 2025).
what is the whole matter
After the video of demolition of the mosque surfaced on social media, people of Nepal’s Muslim community protested and raised slogans in Birgunj on Sunday (January 4, 2025). During this time people burnt tires on the roads. Police said that the whole controversy started with a TikTok video, in which two Muslim youths were seen talking wrongly about Hindus. Angered by this, people vandalized the mosque in Dhanusha and set it on fire.
Any kind of fair, public meeting, procession or protest was banned in some areas of Birgunj city on Monday. This order was implemented from 1 pm on Monday and will continue till further notice. According to the order, such activities have been banned in the area extending from Bus Park in the east of the city, Sirsia Bridge in the west, Power House Chowk in the north and Shankaracharya Gate in the south.
The order said that whoever is found violating the rules, strict legal action will be taken against him. In a video going viral on social media, a group was shown vandalizing a mosque and burning a copy of the Quran in Dhanusha’s Sakhuva Maran.
Police arrested
According to IANS, Dhanusha District Police Office Chief and Superintendent of Police Bishwa Raj Khadka said that we have arrested two Muslim youths who made TikTok videos and a person who vandalized the mosque. Dhanusha District Court has sent him to judicial custody for 5 days.
