The Bharatiya Janata Party has suffered a major setback before the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. The special campaign song prepared by the party has been rejected by the Election Commission. This decision has come amid election preparations, which may affect BJP’s strategy.
BJP had prepared a special campaign song for the BMC elections, so that the party’s message could easily reach the youth and common voters. Through this song, the party wanted to present its work and future plans in Mumbai in an attractive manner.
Election Commission banned
The Election Commission of India did not allow this song to be used in the campaign on the grounds of violation of the electoral code of conduct. The Commission says that the word “saffron” has been used in the song, which was considered objectionable under the rules of the Election Code of Conduct. For this reason it was not approved for public publicity.
According to the Election Commission, during the election campaign, such words or symbols which are associated with any particular religion, color or emotional appeal cannot be used. The Commission made it clear that strict adherence to these rules is necessary to ensure fair and equal elections.
Song sung by famous Marathi singers
Famous Marathi singers Avadhoot Gupte and Vaishali Samant lent their voices to this campaign song. Considering the popularity of both the artists, the party was hopeful that this song would become increasingly popular among the people.
Now BJP has two options. Either make changes in the song and go to the commission again for approval, or prepare new campaign content. Elections are near, so the party can soon enter the fray with a new strategy.
