America’s focus changed, concern increased in Europe
Questions were raised on this meeting when the Trump administration’s attention seemed to be turning towards Venezuela and America’s statements regarding Greenland increased tension in Europe. At the same time, Russia has also not shown any softness in its stand and is sticking to its conditions.
Macron had hope from ‘Coalition of the Willing’
French President Emmanuel Macron had earlier expressed hope regarding this meeting. He had said that this group, which is being called ‘Coalition of the Willing’, has been working for several months on how to prevent any future Russian attack if Russia stops the war.
Talk of concrete promises regarding peace and security
In his address on December 31, Macron had said that the countries participating in the meeting would make concrete promises for the security and lasting peace of Ukraine. According to his office, this meeting is also special because a large number of leaders themselves are present in it.
Representatives of 35 countries, 27 heads of state included
Macron’s office said that 35 representatives attended this meeting, including Presidents and Prime Ministers of 27 countries. From the US side, Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner met Macron before the meeting.
Russia’s strict conditions, NATO army rejected
Russia has clearly said that unless a complete agreement is reached, ceasefire is not possible. Also, the Kremlin has completely rejected the deployment of troops of NATO countries in Ukraine.
Important meetings between Zelensky and military officers
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met Macron before the meeting. Apart from this, a meeting was held between the military chiefs of France, Britain and Ukraine, in which the top American commander of NATO was also present. The focus of the talks was on security guarantees to be given to Ukraine.

Macron’s office said that earlier US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was supposed to come to this meeting, but he changed his plans after the US military action in Venezuela.
Europe united due to Trump’s statement on Greenland
Meanwhile, Trump again reiterated American control over Greenland. After this, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and Britain along with Denmark supported the sovereignty of Greenland.
Ukraine needs solid trust from America
Ukraine wants that it should get clear and strong security guarantees from America, so that other countries also come forward on the same basis. Kiev fears that any ceasefire without concrete guarantees could give Russia an opportunity to attack again.
Signs of some progress in negotiations
US Ambassador Steve Witkoff said that some positive progress has been made in talks regarding Ukraine’s security. He told that the purpose of the discussions between America and European countries is to end the war and ensure that it does not start again.
