Now it is 300 miles south of Iceland and is heading towards Murmansk Port in Russia. America was asked to stop the pursuit, but when the American Coast Guard did not back down, Russia started escorting the tanker by sending submarines and other naval ships. The Wall Street Journal has mentioned only naval assets. The names of the ships have not been made public. These ships may be from Russia’s Northern Fleet, but information about exact specifications is not available.
America has seized many such tankers, but it is difficult to take action against a Russian flagged ship in international waters. If America boards, there could be a major conflict. Russia is calling it a matter of its sovereignty. Experts say that such cases will increase because the shadow fleet is now trying to escape by flying the Russian flag.
