America ready to send army to the island covered with 80% ice, will the situation be like Venezuela, why does Trump want Greenland?

US President Donald Trump has again expressed his desire to include Greenland in America. They say that this is very important for America’s national security. Trump’s statement is now being taken more seriously after the recent military operation in Venezuela, where US forces arrested Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Military action also an option to acquire Greenland

Trump said that we absolutely want Greenland. The White House made it clear on Tuesday that military action can also be taken to acquire Greenland. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said, ‘Nobody will fight the US over the future of Greenland.’ He called international rules ‘iron law’, which do not work in a world based on strength and power.

Why is Greenland very important for America?

Greenland is a large, icy island in the Arctic, which is a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark. The strategic importance of this place is very high. Because,

  • Security of Atlantic sea lanes.
  • Base for missile detection.
  • Melting ice is opening up new shipping routes.
  • There is abundance of oil, gas and rare earth elements, in which China and Russia are interested.

Trump had also talked about buying Greenland during his first term as president, but at that time it was considered a joke. Now after the success in Venezuela it has become serious. Trump has appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as special envoy to Greenland.

Trump wants complete control over the hemisphere

On January 3, 2026, US Special Forces raided Venezuela and arrested Maduro and his wife and brought them to New York. Trump said that America is now ‘running’ Venezuela. The interim government of Venezuela will give up to 50 million barrels of sanctioned oil to America, the proceeds of which Trump will use for the American and Venezuelan people.

Trump called it the empire building project of the 21st century. They want to take complete control over the Western Hemisphere. This sounds like 19th century American presidents, like Jefferson buying Louisiana or William McKinley annexing Hawaii.

What did European countries say on Greenland?

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said, ‘Greenland belongs to its people.’ He warned that any use of force would destroy NATO and America-Europe relations would break down. Several European countries, including France, Germany, Britain, Italy, Poland and Spain, issued a joint statement supporting Greenland’s sovereignty.

The Prime Minister of Canada has also talked about sending a high-level team to Greenland.

Major changes possible in American policies

CNN’s Stephen Collinson says the US already maintains a base in Greenland under NATO. No need to buy or take possession, but Trump wants complete control.

Retired Admiral James Stavridis said, ‘This will be the end of NATO.’ So, Senator Chris Murphy said, ‘Now what is going on in Trump’s mind, it has to be taken seriously.’

However, buying Greenland requires the approval of Congress, the European Union and Denmark. The cost of this deal will be hundreds of billions of dollars. At present, no immediate military action is visible, but Trump’s success has worried the world. This shows a major change in American foreign policy.
