The effects of the decline in relations between India and America in the last few months are visible everywhere. The US Embassy in India on Wednesday (January 7, 2026) has given a strict warning to students regarding immigration. The US posted on Twitter that violating US laws could result in student visas being canceled and deportation.
America’s warning to Indian students
The US Embassy said, ‘Breaking US laws may have serious consequences for your student visa. Your visa can be canceled if you are arrested or break any law. You may be deported from the country and may be ineligible for future US visas. Follow the rules and don’t jeopardize your trip. US visa is a facility, not a right.

America’s warning regarding illegal immigrants
This is not the first time that the US Embassy has issued such statements. Recently, America had issued a warning regarding illegal immigrants leaving India. In which it was said that breaking the immigration law can lead to serious criminal punishment. America is also taking strict steps against people involved in criminal activities and breaking the law, which includes cancellation of their visas.
US is tightening H-1B and student visa rules
The US administration is tightening H-1B and student visa rules. Due to America’s strict visa rules, there has been a decline in the number of foreign students going there. New international admissions in the US declined by 17 percent last year. Data for August 2024 showed that international student arrivals declined by 19 percent year-on-year, the lowest since 2021.
