ECG Normal Still Heart Attack: ECG i.e. Electrocardiogram is the most commonly used test for examining the heart. In this, the electrical signals that control the heartbeat are recorded. This may reveal signs of heart rhythm disturbances or old heart attack. The test is done quickly, there is no pain and the cost is also less, so when the report comes normal, most people feel relieved.
But doctors say that normal ECG does not mean that the heart is completely healthy. Many times serious heart related problems are not detected in ECG. Relying only on this report can give false solace, which can prove dangerous in the future.
Why ECG alone does not reveal the complete health of the heart?
Actually, the heart works on three important systems. First, the electrical system, which the ECG checks, tells whether the heartbeat is in the correct rhythm or not. Second, the muscular system, i.e. the strength of the heart muscle, which is usually seen with 2D echo. Third, angiography is done to check the blood flow system, which shows whether the blood is flowing properly in the arteries or not.
According to a study published in the National Institutes of Health, only about 62 percent of patients could be diagnosed with coronary artery disease based on ECG tests done at rest. That is, there are a large number of patients whose ECG is normal, but blockage is present in the arteries of the heart. Experts say that if symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden fatigue, sweating or dizziness are seen, then do not depend only on ECG. If necessary, tests like echo, stress test or angiography should also be done, so that heart disease can be caught in time.
How should you take care of your health as you age?
As a person ages, natural changes occur in the heart muscle, which can be tracked through ECG. Regarding this, Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman Medicity Medanta Hospital, has suggested some health mantras, which if we follow in our life, we can live a better life. They tell that
First of all, you have to keep in mind that you have to keep drinking water regardless of whether you feel thirsty. It is important to drink at least two liters of water a day.
The second thing is that keep working as much as possible, do not always lie down or remain like a lazy boy. Come on, keep working. If you exercise, the body remains active.
The third most important thing is to eat less. Try to eat only as much food as is necessary for the body. In this also you have to eat nutritious food. Stop eating carbohydrates at night.
The fourth mantra is that vehicle use should be reduced. If you have to go a limited distance, then try to go on foot, this burns energy in the body. Try to reduce the use of vehicles and lifts.
Fifth and most important thing is that you have to control your anger. For this you have to speak less, before speaking think about what you have to say and what not to say.
The sixth mantra is that you should give up the attachment to money, one thing should be kept in mind that it is necessary to earn only as much money as is necessary for survival.
