Police has taken strict action against social media influencer Jyoti Adhikari in Haldwani, Uttarakhand and arrested him. After a day-long interrogation at Mukhani police station on Wednesday, Jyoti Adhikari was taken into custody late night on charges of hurting social and religious sentiments.
The police presented him before the Remand Magistrate at around 11 pm, from where the court sent him to jail for 14 days judicial custody.
Case registered for hurting religious sentiments and under Arms Act
According to the police, Jyoti Adhikari is accused of making objectionable statements during the recent protests regarding the Ankita Bhandari murder case. It is being told that during the demonstration, he waved a sickle in his hand and made indecent remarks about the women of Kumaon and hilly areas. Apart from this, he also raised questions on the existence and traditions of folk deities of Kumaon, which was considered to hurt religious sentiments.
After these statements came to light, anger spread among the local people and various organizations. After which, on the basis of the complaint, the police registered a case against Jyoti Adhikari for hurting religious sentiments, disturbing social harmony and provisions related to the Arms Act. After this he was also called to the police station for questioning.

During the interrogation, Jyoti Adhikari’s supporters also gathered outside the police station and created ruckus, after which the police had to handle the situation throughout the day. By evening the police confirmed the arrest of Jyoti Adhikari. Police say that waving weapons and making provocative statements on a public platform can pose a serious threat to law and order. Jyoti Adhikari has been a popular face on social media. In the year 2021, he started actively making videos on platforms like Facebook and YouTube.
She mainly uploaded dance videos, but was also seen commenting on social and political issues from time to time. For some time now, one of his videos made regarding Ankita Bhandari case has been in controversy. Police sources say that Jyoti Adhikari has been in the news earlier also due to her controversial statements. This time, waving sickle in a public meeting and commenting on a particular community, women and religious beliefs proved to be a heavy burden for him. Police have made it clear that investigation into the matter is ongoing and further action will be taken as per law.
