The sudden exit of Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from IPL 2026 has created a new sourness in the relations between India and Bangladesh cricket. Kolkata Knight Riders bought Mustafizur in the auction for Rs 9.20 crore, but later he was released from the team. Since then, the dispute between the two cricket boards is continuously deepening.
For the last few days, it was being claimed in social media and some reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may reconsider this decision. Whose return of Mustafizur to IPL is possible. However, now Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul has clearly put an end to these speculations.
BCB President’s statement
Aminul Islam Bulbul said in clear words that there has been no discussion from BCCI regarding the return of Mustafizur. He said, “I have not had any discussion with BCCI regarding Mustafizur’s return to IPL. There is no truth in such reports.” After his statement, it has become clear that at present there is no possibility of Mustafizur’s IPL return.
What is the root of the dispute?
After the release of Mustafizur, Bangladesh Cricket Board looked very angry. In response to this, Bangladesh banned the telecast of IPL in its country and also refused to send a team for the T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in India. Citing security reasons, Bangladesh has demanded to hold its matches in Sri Lanka.
Tamim Iqbal gave advice
Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has appealed for restraint on this entire matter. He said that such decisions should not be taken due to emotions, because it can affect Bangladesh cricket for the next 10 years. According to Tamim, many problems can be solved through dialogue.
Government’s strict stance
At the same time, Asif Nazrul, advisor on sports to the Bangladesh government, has taken a tough stance against India. Citing national self-respect, he has expressed objection to playing in India, due to which the matter has become more sensitive.
Overall, Mustafizur Rahman’s exit from the IPL is no longer just an issue of one player, but it also seems to have a deep impact on India-Bangladesh cricket relations and the T20 World Cup 2026.
