Former Ranji Trophy player in Mizoram. Lalremruata died of a heart attack on the cricket field itself. Lalremruata, who had played Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Mizoram, was only 38 years old and seemed completely fit. Earlier during 2024, former Karnataka cricketer K. Hoysala died during the match, while in 2025, a local cricketer named Harjeet Singh in Punjab collapsed immediately after hitting a six and died. All these players were young and played cricket regularly. In such a situation, the question arises that why are even fit players having heart attacks?

What is the whole matter?

A local second division tournament was going on in Sihamui near Aizawl. Lalremruata was batting in the match on 8 January. After finishing batting, he was returning towards the pavilion. Suddenly he felt severe chest pain and fell on the field. Fellow players and spectators immediately took him to the hospital, but he was declared dead. Mizoram Cricket Association said that this happened due to stroke or heart attack.

Why are fit people having heart attacks?

Dr. Ajit Menon, Senior Interventional Cardiologist, Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai, says that young people going to the gym or playing are suddenly becoming victims of heart attacks. The reasons for this are lack of sleep, excessive stress, wrong eating habits, late night partying and going to the gym in the morning and sometimes use of drugs. Actually, sometimes plaque already accumulates in the veins, which bursts and forms a blood clot.

This problem also came up

According to Dr. Lakshmi Navya, Consultant Cardiologist at Manipal Hospital, Vijayawada, the heart beats faster while playing or exercising. If the person concerned already has blockage, then sudden problems may occur and heart attack may occur. There are also genetic reasons in young players. South Asian people have a higher risk of heart disease. Apart from this, the risk also increases due to obesity, smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure and family history of heart disease.

Even fit people can get sick

Doctors say that even fit looking people can become victims of heart problems. Many times, there is already blockage in the heart veins, but it is not detected. If there is too much stress on the heart while playing, the blockage may burst and lead to a heart attack. In comparison to western countries, people in India are becoming victims of heart diseases 10 years earlier.

  • If you experience chest pain, shortness of breath or dizziness while playing, stop immediately and consult a doctor.
  • Apart from these, rest along with exercise is necessary. Also take rest for one or two days a week.
