Mika Singh said that shelter and necessary facilities can be built for the dogs on this land, so that their health and safety remains good. But just giving land will not suffice, staff and facilities are needed for proper care of the dogs. He said, ‘All I want to say is that good staff and caretakers should be found to take care of the dogs responsibly. I am ready to give up the land so that everything can be done for the safety, health and well-being of the dogs.
Mika Singh’s appeal has come at a time when the Supreme Court’s focus on street dog management has become a topic of discussion across the country. Recently, the Supreme Court said on Thursday that it did not order to remove stray dogs from the streets. Their aim is to ensure that stray animals are managed as per the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023. According to the court, due to increase in dog bite cases and failure of municipal authorities to enforce rules, they had to intervene in the matter.
