In today’s busy life, we are not able to take proper care of our food and drink. Amidst work, mobile and stress, we often forget the most important thing, drinking water. Many people manage by drinking only 2 to 3 glasses of water throughout the day. Do you know that lack of water can give rise to a serious disease in your body, which is called kidney stone.

Kidney stone is a problem in which there is sudden severe and unbearable pain in the stomach, waist or back. This pain can be so severe that the person has to go to the hospital. In many cases, problems like blood in urine, vomiting, fever and burning sensation also start occurring. The biggest reason for this disease is drinking less water and lack of water in the body i.e. dehydration.

How are kidney stones formed due to lack of water?

When we do not drink enough water, the amount of fluids in the body reduces. It has a direct effect on our urine. Drinking less water makes urine thick. Elements like calcium, oxalate and uric acid get accumulated in large quantities in thick urine. These elements mix together and form small crystals. These crystals gradually turn into kidney stones. If there is lack of water for a long time, the body is neither able to dissolve nor expel these crystals.

What is kidney stone?

Kidney stones are solid particles or stone-like structures that form inside the kidneys. It can be as small as a grain of sand or sometimes as large as a golf ball. Small stones sometimes pass out with urine without any symptoms, but larger stones get stuck in the urinary tract, causing terrible pain.

Main symptoms of kidney stone

Many symptoms can be seen in case of kidney stones. Such as sudden severe pain in the waist, back or lower abdomen, pain spreading to the thigh or waist, burning sensation or pain during urination, blood in the urine, frequent urge to urinate, nausea and vomiting, fever and chills, smelly or cloudy urine. Sometimes small stones can occur without pain.

How can kidney stones be prevented by drinking water?

Drinking enough water is the easiest and most effective way to prevent kidney stones. Drinking water keeps urine diluted. Minerals and salts dissolve and come out easily. The chances of crystal formation are greatly reduced. Doctors generally recommend that a person should drink enough water so that the color of urine remains light yellow.
