If you dream of becoming a doctor but are scared of NEET, MBBS and long preparation, then now a new and different path has opened for you. The special thing is that to follow this path, it is not mandatory for you to have 12th Science or NEET. Only after passing 10th, you can directly enroll in a course which, upon completion, will make you an Ayurvedic doctor. This course has been started by Central Sanskrit University.

What is Ayurveda Gurukulam Course?

Ayurveda Gurukulam is such an integrated course, which starts after 10th. In this, students are taught Ayurveda through Sanskrit from the very beginning. The scriptures, texts, medical methods and modern medical knowledge of Ayurveda are also included in this course.

According to Vice Chancellor Professor Srinivas Varkhedi, the objective of this program is to take Ayurveda forward in its original language and tradition, so that students can understand the ancient knowledge in its true form.

How long is this course?

The total duration of this integrated program is 7.5 years. This includes basic studies of Sanskrit and Ayurveda in the initial years, followed by professional Ayurvedic medical education and finally internship. After completing the course, students will be called BAMS doctors and will be eligible to practice Ayurvedic medicine.

Who can apply?

  • The student must have passed 10th with Sanskrit medium.
  • Have good understanding of Sanskrit subject.
  • Have interest in Ayurveda and traditional medicine.

This course is a special opportunity for those students who have been studying Sanskrit since childhood and want to make a career in the medical field.

Is it necessary to give NEET?

The biggest feature of this course is that it does not require traditional medical entrance exams like NEET. However, the entire process, entrance examination and rules related to admission will be decided by the university.

What will be the career options after doing the course?

After completing this course, students can become Ayurvedic doctors, open their own clinics, work in government and private Ayurvedic hospitals, and go into the field of research and teaching.

This course is considered special because in this, students get a chance to move towards becoming a doctor only after 10th class, which is generally not possible in the medical field. This program is taught through Sanskrit medium, which enables students to deeply understand the original texts and traditional knowledge of Ayurveda. On completion of the course, students are given a recognized and professional degree like BAMS, which opens up many career paths for them as Ayurvedic doctors.
