Is cold water beneficial or harmful?
Now talking about cold water, cold water makes the face feel fresh. According to Ayurveda, cold water balances Vata dosha and refreshes the skin by increasing blood circulation. It helps reduce swelling and redness and temporarily shrinks facial pores. However, science says that cold water alone does not completely cleanse the skin deeply, because cold water is less effective in completely removing oil and dirt. Continuous use of cold water can cause dry skin. In such a situation, one should avoid using cold water for main cleaning.
Which option is best in winter?
Using lukewarm water is the best way to wash face in winter. Ayurveda considers it to be a balanced and gentle water, which cleanses the skin without harming it. Lukewarm water gently removes dirt, oil and sweat from the face and retains the natural oil of the skin. According to science, lukewarm water opens the pores and removes dirt and dead skin, making the skin soft, fresh and glowing. Also, it prevents the skin from becoming dry or irritated.

Another way to clean the skin is with ice or ice water. It feels instantly refreshing to the skin and reduces swelling and redness by shrinking the blood vessels. According to Ayurveda, it calms Vata and provides coolness to the face. However, using ice water for a long time can reduce the moisture of the skin and make it dry. In such a situation, ice water should always be used with caution. At the same time, moisturizer should be applied after washing the face.
