HDFC Bank Q3 Results: Profit increased by 11.5 percent to cross Rs 18000 crore, stock will be in focus on Monday.

Net Interest Income (NII) or the interest earned by the bank on its loans stood at Rs 32,615 crore, which is 6.4 percent more than Rs 30,653 crore in the same period last year. The bank reported Gross Non-Performing Assets (GNPA) at Rs 35179 crore, whereas last year it was Rs 36019 crore. This shows that there has also been an improvement in GNPA, which has come down to 1.24 percent as compared to earlier 1.42 percent. Net NPA stood at Rs 11981.8 crore. It was Rs 11588 crore last year. Net NPA ratio has also come down to 0.42 percent as against 0.46 percent.

What were the operating expenses?

The operating expenses of the bank this quarter stood at Rs 18771.04 crore. Out of this, if we keep aside the impact of about Rs 800 crore due to the implementation of the New Labor Code, then this expenditure comes to Rs 17970 crore. This is slightly more than last year. The core cost-to-income ratio remained at 39.2 percent. The bank also recently announced the retirement of Executive Director Bhavesh Javeri. Zaveri told the board that he wanted to explore opportunities outside the banking sector and would not apply for re-appointment. He is retiring from his post on April 18, 2026.

The capital position of the bank is also strong. The bank is well capitalized with a Total Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of 19.87% as of December 31, 2025, which is well above the regulatory requirement. Tier-1 capital is at 17.8 percent and common equity tier-1 is at 17.4 percent.
