On this platform, Gaurav Mehta, founder of Jaipur Watch Company, shared the story of his startup’s journey and explained how an Indian brand can move towards global recognition despite limited resources and tough competition.
Gaurav Mehta told that wearing his company’s watch on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a very emotional and shocking moment for him. Let us tell you that the Prime Minister has been wearing a watch of Jaipur Watch Company, which has a lion engraved on it, for the last 8 months. On this, Gaurav Mehta clearly said, ‘This was not the result of any promotion, gift or request. PM Modi wore his watch as per his personal choice, which gave confidence and new identity to his brand.
A journey full of 13 years of struggle and learning
Gaurav Mehta said that the journey of the last 13 years has not been easy, but every stage taught something new. At a time when the Indian market was dominated by foreign watches, it was a big challenge to establish an unknown local brand. His interest in watches since childhood inspired him to step into this field.
Startup started without any big plan
Recalling the beginning of Jaipur Watch Company, he said that the first collection was launched in the year 2013 and the second in 2015. At that time he neither had big investment nor any big business plan. He said that when the first watch was ready, the biggest challenge was how to deliver it to the customers. Despite limited budget and resources, he took the brand forward with patience.
Indian culture is the biggest strength
Talking about themed watches related to Ram Temple and Indian heritage, Gaurav Mehta said that they do not have the huge marketing capability like foreign brands, but their connection with Indian culture is their biggest strength. He admitted that for a long time Indian consumers have had the mentality of considering foreign brands as better, but now this thinking is changing rapidly. He told that in a program at Ram Mandir, PM Modi was wearing a watch of Jaipur Watch Company in his hand. Apart from this, many other leaders wear our company’s watches.
Desi and traditional trends are returning among the youth
According to Gaurav Mehta, today’s youth is again returning to their Indian roots. Despite the era of smartwatches, the demand for traditional and classic watches is again increasing. He said that positive growth is visible in the Indian watch market, which is bringing big opportunities for local brands.
