How Many Cups Of Tea Are Healthy Per Day: In the winter season, a cup of hot tea gives comfort to both body and mind. While the warmth of the tea provides relief to the hands, the steam rising from it makes the entire atmosphere comfortable. This is the reason why most people drink several cups of tea throughout the day during winter and it becomes their daily habit. Drinking limited quantity of tea is generally considered good for health, but drinking excessive tea can also cause some harm. Drinking too much tea can cause problems like restlessness, sleeplessness and headache, which are related to the caffeine and tannins present in tea. In such a situation, the question arises that how much tea should be drunk in the cold season.
Both advantages and disadvantages of tea
If tea is consumed in the right quantity, it has many benefits. Some research suggests that drinking regular tea may reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and type-2 diabetes, although it depends on the type of tea and how much quantity you are drinking. Antioxidants like flavonoids and catechins present in tea help in reducing oxidative stress in the body and are also considered helpful in reducing the risk of some types of cancer. The combination of caffeine and L-theanine present in tea helps in increasing focus while keeping the mind calm, due to which one does not feel nervous like coffee. At the same time, herbal teas like ginger or mint can help in improving digestion and strengthening the body’s natural immunity. Tea also works to support immunity during cold and flu season.
However, there are some disadvantages of drinking excessive tea. Especially consuming tea with caffeine in large quantities can have adverse effects on health. The tannins present in tea can hinder the absorption of iron, which can cause problems for people suffering from anemia or those on a vegetarian diet. If the amount of caffeine consumed in a day exceeds 400 mg, then there may be complaints like sleep related problems, restlessness and rapid heartbeat. Drinking strong tea on an empty stomach can also cause nausea, acidity or dizziness. Apart from this, drinking too much tea for a long time can stain the teeth and can also lead to caffeine addiction.
How much tea is it okay to drink in a day?
Now the question is how much tea is considered too much. Generally, drinking 3 to 4 cups of tea a day is considered safe for most people. However, people who are more sensitive to caffeine or are suffering from any specific health problem should reduce the amount of tea. Pregnant women also need to take special care and should not drink more than 2 cups of tea a day, so that the amount of caffeine remains within safe limits.
