Union Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has given a big statement on the death of software engineer Yuvraj Mehta in a tragic accident in Greater Noida on Wednesday (January 21, 2026) from the platform of Indio 2047 Youth Conclave organized by ABP Network. He said that this is a very unfortunate incident. I can understand this because I have also been a victim of a road accident. He said, ‘My biggest priority is how to eliminate road accidents. I don’t like it at all, I feel ashamed to say that in our country there are 5 lakh road accidents, 1 lakh 80 thousand people die and 66% of the youth in the age group of 18 to 30 die in this.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said, ‘There is a feeling in the minds of common people regarding helping the injured in road accidents that if I help something, the police will go after me, the matter will go to the court, so why get into trouble. So the Supreme Court has also given a decision regarding this and we have also reformed the law that if a person gets injured in a road accident and someone picks him up and immediately takes him to any hospital, then we declare him a traveler and immediately give him a reward of Rs 25,000. After this, there will be no questioning of any kind from that person, there will be no problem.

He said, ‘If a person injured in a road accident goes to any hospital for treatment, we will pay him a minimum of Rs 1.5 lakh for his hospital expenses for 7 days. Whether the accident happens on a village road, in a city, in a district, on a state highway or a national highway.
Nitin Gadkari spoke about AIIMS report
The Union Minister said, ‘AIIMS has published a report, which says that if someone meets with an accident and we help immediately, then we can save the lives of at least 50 thousand people.’ He said, ‘This means that if someone meets with an accident and is immediately taken to the hospital for treatment, the chances of his death are reduced.’
