In the ongoing WEF meeting in Davos, Switzerland, French President Emmanuel Macron strongly criticized America’s action regarding Greenland. Questioning the policies of US President Donald Trump, Moukro pointed out that we are moving towards a world without rules. The French President said that international law is being trampled under foot and it seems that only the laws of the most powerful people matter.

Macron’s speech in sunglasses is going viral

Apart from President Macron’s speech, his sunglasses were also a topic of discussion. His speech with glasses went viral on social media. He strongly criticized US President Donald Trump’s threat that he would impose heavy tariffs if Europe did not allow them to take over Greenland. While on one hand other European leaders are showing restraint regarding the Atlantic region, on the other hand Macron has adopted an aggressive stance.

Macron showed mirror to Trump regarding war

Macron mentioned the Russian attack on Ukraine and the ongoing wars in the Middle East and Africa. His entire statement was directly aimed at Trump. He said that his (Donald Trump) own morality only limits global power and he does not need international law. Macron said Europe will stand up for regional sovereignty and the rule of law, even as the world moves forward without rules. This may also include imposing strict trade restrictions by the European Union.

A befitting reply to Trump’s bullying

Macron said, ‘We give priority to respect rather than bullies. We prefer the rule of law rather than cruelty.” The world needs to prioritize respect and rules-based order rather than coercion. Macron gave this speech after Trump threatened to impose heavy tariffs on French wine and Champagne and took Macron’s five-point chat. Trump had vowed on Saturday to increase tariffs on several European allies, including France, from February 1 unless they support the US over Greenland. The European Union has called it blackmail.

Trump threatens France with tariffs

European leaders will meet in Brussels on Thursday (22 January 2026) for an emergency summit on Greenland. France refused to join US President Trump’s proposed Gaza ‘Board of Peace’. On this Trump said, ‘Nobody wants him because he will be out of office very soon.’ He then threatened to impose a 200 percent tariff on French wine and Champagne. Macron has urged the European Union to implement its anti-trade tools, which could limit America’s access.

‘Big economies weaken international organizations’

Macron said, ‘I can give examples of many such international organizations which the big economies have weakened or left. Today, when we look at the current situation, it clearly seems worrying. By fixing this we can face the challenges to come.
