US President Donald Trump once again reiterated his ambitions regarding Greenland on Tuesday (January 20, 2026). He said that America’s control over this island is very important for national and international security.
Due to Trump’s desire to acquire the autonomous island of Greenland, America is also targeting many of its allies. Meanwhile, Greenland’s Premier and Prime Minister Jens-Fredrik Nielsen has warned his people about a possible military conflict.
What did Donald Trump say about the occupation of Greenland?
President Donald Trump said in a recent statement that occupying Greenland still remains the biggest priority for America. Speaking to News Nation, Trump said, ‘This island is located in a place which is very important for our national security and also for international security.’
Giving the example of building the Golden Dome in Greenland, he said that it can stop missiles fired from Russia, China and other countries. Trump said that for example we are building the Golden Dome. Even if someone wants to fire missiles, he will knock them down in the air like matchsticks.
Nielsen spoke on the fear of possible military action from America
On the other hand, amid threats from Donald Trump, Greenland is preparing for its worst situation. The Prime Minister and Premier Jens-Fredrik Nielsen have appealed to their citizens to be prepared for a possible military attack. Addressing a press conference in the capital Nuuk on Tuesday (January 20, 2026), Nielsen said, ‘It is unlikely that there will be a military conflict, but it cannot be completely ignored either. In such a situation, a task force will be formed involving key local officials.
While Greenland’s Finance Minister and former Prime Minister Mute B. Egede said that pressure is increasing on the island and it is important to be prepared for any outcome.
