Zoya Afroz became famous as Priya in ‘Taskari’, said- traveled thousands of kilometers for this character

There are some actors in the world of Bollywood and OTT, whose journey is not only a story of success, but is also an example of patience, learning and continuously moving forward. Actress Zoya Afroz is one of them. Zoya, who stepped on the sets of films as a child artist, is today garnering praise for her strong and complex character of Priya in Netflix’s popular series ‘Taskari’.

‘Taskari’ is getting recognition not only in the country but also at the global level and it has become an important milestone in Zoya’s career. Talking to IANS, Zoya Afroz said, ‘I started my career at a very young age. Started working on the sets of Sooraj Barjatya’s film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ and after this also worked with veteran directors like Ramesh Sippy, Rohan Sippy.

Zoya told that after appearing in many projects including the film ‘Kuch Na Kaho’, she gained a lot of experience as a child artist and model. After this, I got a chance to become Miss India and represent India in Miss International, but acting was always my first choice.

Zoya said, ‘The advantage of starting work at such a young age was that I got a chance to understand the industry very closely. By working with big directors and actors, I learned the nuances of acting. The journey may have been long, but it has been extremely satisfying. Today, being a part of an OTT series like ‘Taskari’ and its becoming number one is like a dream come true for me.

Zoya told what was special in the character

In ‘Taskari’, Zoya plays the character of Priya, an air hostess who is caught between the world of customs officials and smugglers. This character is challenging. Zoya said, ‘I found this role special because director Neeraj Pandey writes female characters with great strength and depth. Priya is not an ordinary female character, but an important link that takes the story forward.

Sharing her experience of being associated with this project, Zoya said, “When I got the offer of ‘Taskari’, I was at my maternal home in Assam. Suddenly a call came. Without any guarantee, I immediately packed my bag and traveled thousands of kilometers to reach the audition. The same day I had a look test and I was finalized. The very next day the workshop and then shooting started. Such trust from a National Award winning director like Neeraj Pandey was a very inspiring experience for me.

The most challenging scene of the series for her was the interrogation with Emraan Hashmi, which was also her first shooting scene. She said, ‘The very first morning, the first shot and the scene was so emotional that I became quite nervous, but today that scene is being liked the most by the audience.

On the experience of working with Emraan Hashmi, Zoya said, he is a very easygoing, intelligent and down to earth actor. His presence on the set makes the scene even better. The pairing of Neeraj Pandey and Emraan Hashmi is very real. Both bring truth to the story and characters.

Regarding her career, Zoya said, ‘I never bind myself in different paths. For me, acting, Miss India and then returning to acting are all part of the same journey. ‘Taskari’ is a big achievement in my career and I want to play such powerful characters in future also.
