There is big news for the parents of Delhi. Private unaided schools of the capital are going to release the first list of nursery admission for the academic session 2026–27 today i.e. on 23 January 2026. This list will be of those children who have been selected for admission in entry level classes. These classes include nursery, KG and first class.
According to the rules set by Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE), children have been selected on the basis of point system. This system includes distance of home from school, siblings studying in the same school, parents or grandparents being alumni of that school and other fixed parameters. By adding these points, marks were given to the children and on the basis of that the list has been prepared.
Details of points were received on January 16
Earlier on January 16, 2026, the schools had released the list of all the applicants. In this list, it was also told how many marks each child has got under which criteria. After this, the schools examined all the documents and marks and prepared the final selection list.
More than 1700 schools will release the list
According to officials, around 1,741 private unaided schools across Delhi will release the first admission list. Applications from about 1.25 lakh children are included in this process. Along with the selected children, it will also contain the names of the children kept in the waiting list. According to reports, this list will make it clear to thousands of parents whether their child has been selected or not.
Opportunity for parents to lodge objection
If any parent has any questions or objections regarding the marks obtained by their child or the selection process, they can contact the school between January 24 and February 3, 2026. During this period, schools will have to listen to the complaints of parents and also respond if necessary.
Second list and further process
After the first list, the second admission list will be released on 9 February 2026. Even after this, if seats remain vacant, further lists can be issued as per the need. The entire admission process will end on March 19, 2026.
What are the rules regarding age?
- For admission in nursery, the child should be at least 3 years of age.
- The minimum age for KG has been fixed at 4 years.
- For first class the child must be at least 5 years old
Children already studying will get next class
The Directorate of Education has also made it clear that the children who are studying in nursery in the academic session 2025–26 will be promoted to KG in the next session. At the same time, the children who are currently in KG will go to class 1 in 2026–27. Such children will not have to go through the admission process again.
Nursery admission for which children?
According to the rules, nursery admission 2026–27 will be for only those children who have completed three years by March 31, 2026, but are below four years of age.
