After the release of the draft list in the ongoing SIR process in Uttar Pradesh, questions have started being raised on it. On Saturday, Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav, in a press conference in Lucknow, raised questions on the impartiality of the Election Commission and showed evidence of huge irregularities. He has appealed to the Election Commission to provide training to our people through its technical team.

Akhilesh Yadav pointed out many flaws in the voter list in Kannauj Sadar Assembly. There were a large number of duplicate voters here. He expressed apprehension that the date has been extended twice because BJP was not prepared.

The commission had promised a pure voter list.

Regarding the SIR process, Akhilesh Yadav said, “This is a very important matter. News related to it is continuously coming out.” He said that when the Election Commission had announced the revision on November 4, 2025, it had promised that ‘there will be no shortage in the voter list’ and had also assured that this process would make the voter list ‘pure and inclusive’.

Showed the example of Kannauj

The SP chief said, “The Election Commission had said that with the help of mapping and technology, the voter list will be made completely accurate and no voter will be left out. However, we are seeing many inconsistencies happening.” Citing the example of anomalies found in Kannauj Sadar assembly constituency, which falls under his Lok Sabha seat, he said, “If this is the situation in one assembly constituency, then it can be imagined what would be happening in the entire state.”

Questions on the impartiality of the Election Commission

Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the officials worked in collusion with the government and said that the constitutional body Election Commission is no longer working impartially. That’s probably why the date was changed several times.
