Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma has been honored with the Padma Shri award. Apart from him, Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur also received this honour. These awards were announced on the eve of India’s 77th Republic Day. Apart from him, India’s legendary tennis player Vijay Amritraj received the honor of Padma Bhushan. Amritraj is the only player from the sports world to receive the honor of Padma Bhushan this year.
The Padma Bhushan is India’s third highest civilian award, while the Padma Shri comes fourth. Apart from Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur, Indian women’s hockey team goalkeeper Savita Punia, Baldev Singh, Bhagwandas Raikwar, K Pajanivel and former fast bowler Praveen Kumar will be honored with Padma Shri. President of India Draupadi Murmu has approved the distribution of 131 Padma awards for the year 2026.
The year 2025 was very memorable for Harmanpreet Kaur. Under his captaincy, India became women’s ODI world champion for the first time. In the final, Team India defeated South Africa by 52 runs. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the men’s cricket team won the Champions Trophy title. Late Grigorian wrestling coach Vladimir Mestvirishvili will also be honored with Padma Bhushan.

On Sunday, the Central Government of India released the list of 131 Padma awards, which also includes well-known personalities from sports, film, art and literature and other fields.
